Commuter Choices Showcase - Trinity Centre, Cambridge Science Park - 18 November 2009

Commuters in Cambridge will be lining up next Wednesday (November 18) to learn about what transport choices are open to them to help them get to work, stay fit and help the planet.

Employees travelling to Cambridge’s Business Park, Regional College, Science Park, St John’s Innovation Centre and Taylor Vinters solicitors are being invited to a Commuter Choices Showcase event being held at The Trinity Centre, Cambridge Science Park

The event is being organised by Travel Plan Plus (TP+), an exciting European funded project that will join these employment sites together in a travel plan network. This will help them work on promoting and providing more environmentally friendly travel options to commuters and business travellers.

Gary Armstrong, TP+ Travel Plan Coordinator said; “This commuter choices showcase is all about highlighting to commuters that there are realistic and viable alternatives to driving alone to work.”

Visitors to the showcase will be able to find out about car sharing, public bus, including the new Busway, cycling, adult cycle training, motorcycle training, walking, and train service discounts.

Gary added; “The commuting experts at the showcase will be available to provide practical advice and support on what low cost, sustainable and healthy opportunities exist to ease travel to work stresses.”

A novel approach to be adopted at the event are regular “soapbox” sessions by the commuting experts who will be given 2 minutes to explain about their mode of sustainable transport and to encourage visitors to find out more.

The event, which is free to attend, is being held on Wednesday 18th November 2009 between 11am and 3pm. For more information please contact Gary Armstrong on 01223 715695 or e-mail gary.armstrong@cambridgeshire.gov.uk.

The first meeting of the TP+ Steering group was held on 1 October 2009 and was kindly hosted by Amgen, based on the Cambridge Science Park.

The steering group is made up of employers (both large and small) from across the site as well as the site managers. One of the first tasks agreed is to prepare an action plan for the project and this should be ready for agreement at the next meeting on 2 November and will be published on this web page once finalised.

In addition it was agreed that the project as a whole needs a new name and a competition has been launched to find a punchy and descriptive brand which which can be used in marketing initiatives. To get the creative juices running a prize of 26 free Graze Boxes from www.graze.com, the UK's first company to deliver healthy food to your desk or home by post, is being offered to the best name submitted. The competition is open to all employers and staff across the TP+ site. For further details on the competition click the link below:

Inaugural Meeting - 23 September 2009

The inaugural meeting of the TRAVEL PLAN PLUS (TP+) project was held on 23 September 2009 and was kindly hosted by Genzyme Therapeutics Ltd, based on the Cambridge Science Park.

The event, attended by 26 employers and site managers from across the TP+ area, heard from Mark Webb, TP+ project manager about the project aims and objects. David Abbott from The Highways Agency and Andrew Summers from EEDA then outlined why they are supporting the project. Gary Armstrong, TP+ Coordinator then updated the group on the current status regarding the establishment of the "commuter centre" and current events and activities.
