Travel Plan Guidance

A workplace travel plan looks at how travel is generated by a work site(s). Based on evidence and through a series of measures, it is designed to positively influence that travel.

A good Travel Plan can:

  • Save you money - gain financial control of your transport expenditures
  • Improve the efficiency of fleet operations and deliveries
  • Reduce traffic congestion – thereby aiding the local economy
  • Improve the health, stress and well being of your staff (see this link to a webpage that reports on evidence to support this)
  • Improve the productivity of your staff
  • Allow you to report positive Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Enhance your reputation and relations with your local community
  • Improve local air quality
  • Reduce global greenhouse gas emissions
  • Reduce local noise levels

Travel Messages Guide

TfW has compiled a Travel Messages Guide comprised of an extensive list of sustainable travel messages sent out by travel plan coordinators to raise awareness, promote travel choice and events and encourage positive behaviour change.  Messages are wide-ranging ,including promoting specific travel modes, such as car sharing, and encouraging event participation.

The tool is simple and quick to use and can be used for ideas or as a template for your own sustainable travel messages.

To download your own version of the Travel Messages guide click: Travel Messages Guide.

Make sure to keep your version updated so that you have an evidence base of communications activity and can use previous examples as a template for future messages.
