Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Travel Plan Awards - 2005Travel for Work joined forces with Peterborough's Travelchoice Team to present the Cambridgeshire Travel Plan Awards at a ceremony on Tuesday 6 September. "The idea is to publicly acknowledge employers in the County who are writing and implementing effective travel plans," said Mark Webb, TfW Development Manager. The Awards were presented by Steve Riches of BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. The event, a part of Exercise your Choice Week, took place at the Government Office for the East of England in Cambridge.
TfW Award Recipients Twenty employers received the awards which ranged from the 'Certificate of Commitment', where the company's senior management agree to produce a travel plan, to the 'Travel Plan Excellence Award' for businesses with mature travel plans which are now wedded into the way the company does its business. Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Addenbrooke's Hospital) and the Wellcome Trust’s Genome Campus both received a Travel Plan Excellence Award.
Dawn Wise receives her award Dawn Wise, Green Travel Plan Co-ordinator at the Genome Campus, said, “ We are delighted that our hard work in encouraging healthy and more environmentally friendly commuting has been recognised. We launched our travel plan back in 2002 since when we’ve set up several schemes to help our staff get to work"
The BBC's Steve Riches said at the event, " I know from calls to my breakfast show that traveling to work can get many people hot under the collar. Anything that can help alleviate the stress of getting to work has to be applauded. I was delighted to be able to present the awards to these employers who are taking such big steps to provide more choice to their commuting staff.” "The benefits to the community at large of these travel plans are fewer cars on the road, and therefore cleaner air and a more effective local economy. That is surely worthy of reward!" says Mark. "We are looking forward to hosting the Awards next year," said Nicola Francis, Workplace Travel Plan Officer at Travelchoice. "We want to reward even more employers. So get in touch now to let us know that you'd like to apply."
