Car Club (Cambridge City)

Cambridge (City Car Club)

Cambridge City Council has joined forces with Streetcar to establish the Cambridge City Car Club.

For Cambridge based employers this is worth considering within your travel plans for two reasons.

  • Pool Cars
Using a car club for your pool car needs can be a cheaper and less time consuming way of providing mobility for business when you need it, and only paying for what you use. Streetcar have put together a short and informative presentation on business use of the car club. Click here to see the presentation.
  • For Staff
Staff living in the city may be interested in the club for their own usage. Membership of a car club often leads to the selling of a personal car. Most car club owners use other forms of transport more often and this can mean a benefit to you travel plan - ie. they may choose to bus, cycle or walk to work rather than take the car

HiCar (Histon Car Club)

HiCar was lauched in March 2010 as a volunteer-run car club set up to offer Histon and Impington residents and businesses pay-as-you-go access to cars parked conveniently in the village.

Structured as a community cooperative, run entirely by volunteers, the group will purchase second-user cars to keep costs down.  Initial charges are hoped to start from £2 per hour.

HiCar believe that anyone with a 5-6 year old car who doesn't use it every day and who drives less than 6,000 miles a year could save money by using the scheme.
